The Urban Environment Committee of the Ballston-Virginia Square Partnership is charged with maintaining the highest standards of urban design, as well as making the area attractive and pedestrian-friendly.

Committee members are liaisons between the public and private sectors for all projects that have an impact on the urban landscape of Ballston and Virginia Square. Among this committee’s accomplishments:

•  Landscape improvements to the medians on Fairfax Drive and Wilson Boulevard
•  Traffic studies on Fairfax Drive and Glebe Road to develop recommendations for pedestrian safety
•  The 9th Street Urban Greenway and Walk Arlington Pilot Project
•  Review of urban design and site plan standards for development projects in Ballston and Virginia Square
•  Vending box agreement with The Washington Post for maintenance and upkeep
